Have You Met Opportunity?

She is a multi-traveller and wears many faces but isn’t Arya Stark

Hello there. Have we met?

I believe we have.

I can’t quite place it though but I’m not sure…

You won’t believe me if I told you.

What? Try me.

My name is Opportunity. The last time we met, I was wearing a different face and clothes. You didn’t recognise me even though we have met before that time too.

Woah… is there a camera somewhere? Is this a joke?

I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. We could be friends you and I, if you want.

This is really weird. I don’t even know what to think.

That’s ok. Some of my friends used to be like you. Now, they’re different.

Different, how? Well, I love to travel and meet new people all the time. But the only way I can meet as many people as I do is by changing faces. That’s the rule. My friends recognise me no matter what I look or sound like. You see, they’ve learnt my tells.

Ok. What are your tells? Well, I always carry fresh flowers, an umbrella, and an empty bag.

How are these items your tells? I don’t get it.

Fresh flowers are new ideas, new inspirations. Some of them are not entirely new. I carry them anyway because, even though someone somewhere has this idea, they haven’t done anything about it yet. An umbrella is for in case.

In case what? In case it rains. In case I’m about to get mugged at the bus stop. Just, in case.

Ok. What about the empty bag? What’s that for?

That’s for chances.

Chances? What does that even mean?

I might get the chance to pick up something I didn’t plan to. If I didn’t have a bag, I would need to go get one first. And sometimes, that means I miss the chance.

Ooh that makes so much sense. You seem pretty clever.

I am. That’s why I am Opportunity. So, would you like to be my friend? Do you think you might recognise me if I looked different? If I had a different face and wore different clothes, would you know it was me?

I think I might. Not a lot of people go about with empty bags you know?
