What is the church?

Where is the church?

Over the years, I’ve heard different responses to these questions, some of them truly profound. Now comes 2021 and I find myself again wondering what we’re doing right and what we’re getting wrong.

Do the non-faith people come to us for solutions to the world’s problems? I see Christians imitating everyone else so much these days. Sometimes, I can’t tell how we’re different. It often feels like we’re busy dealing with our own problems to be someone else’s solution. I mean we also got unemployment, rent, mortgage, health, marriage, trying to have kids, trying to raise kids, people in our lives dying problems just like everybody else, right?

How do they know we’re the church? How can they tell? Are we still the church when we abuse and manipulate others because we’re richer, more successful or have more influence? Are we still the church when we’re lying at work cos it’s business and that’s normal? Are we still the church when we’re exposing our bodies because it’s trending, it’s the fashion and we’re comfortable with our bodies anyway? Are we still the church when we’re influenced by everyone and everything trending on social media? Are we still the church when we no longer remember what the church is supposed to look like?
