What’s Your Story?
I stumbled on a snippet from Will Smith’s Memoir, Will. He shared a truly touching story, an aspect of his life I apparently knew nothing about. Everyone has some compelling event in their lives that may have defined them. What’s your story?
“When I was nine years old, I watched my father punch my mother in the side of the head so hard that she collapsed. I saw her spit blood… I decided to be funny. I wanted to please and placate him because as long as Daddio was laughing and smiling, I believed we would be safe. I was the entertainer in the family. I wanted to keep everything light and fun and joyful.”Will Smith
As Will put it, “How we decide to respond to our fears, that is the person we become.”
What a profound revelation!
So, what’s your story?
Are you swimming or sinking?
Have your fears been winning?
You too can change your story, you know.
Whatever that thing that is so determined to make a victim out of you doesn’t know that it is arming you to be its victor. So, come on now.
Look inside. It was in you all along.
